Warning thresholds

Warning thresholds on motorways, also known as St. Andrew's strips, are traffic safety measures, especially on motorways and expressways.

The warning thresholds are, among other things, part of a warning system for daytime construction sites or at fire brigade deployment sites. They consist of planks two meters wide, three centimeters high and 23 centimeters deep made of flexible, usually yellow plastic material.

Three sleepers are laid out one after the other at a distance of 3–5 metres from each other about 100–150 metres before the rear protection by a construction site safety vehicle or a traffic safety trailer on the roadway. At the latest by means of the tactile and acoustic signal when driving over, they indicate that the lane occupied by them ends at a distance of 100 to 150 metres and that traffic must merge into one of the remaining lanes in good time.

According to the Federal Highway Research Institute (BASt), the warning thresholds can be easily crossed by any vehicle and at any speed. They are made of flexible plastic material, three centimeters high, 23 centimeters wide, two meters long and equipped with reflectors so that they are easy to see even in the dark.
They have been tested in accordance with the Technical Delivery and Testing Conditions for Transportable Warning Thresholds 2014 (TLP) of the Federal Highway Research Institute (BASt) and thus meet the highest quality standards.

Used as an early warning device for short-term work sites, they increase safety – for both road construction workers and road users.

The warning thresholds weigh around 17 kilograms. This means that they can also be transported by a single person. Handles make handling easier. Since the warning thresholds are made of weather-resistant, heavy-duty special plastic, the quality of the material is maintained even after being driven over several times. The top and bottom of the warning thresholds are roughened to ensure increased grip and safety. They are used in combination, for example, with a mobile warning sign and on the right-hand lane or the hard shoulder – without further fastening to the road surface.

We deliver international Andreasstrips (without BASt) and national Andreasstrips with BASt exam.
